I wanted to write tonight about something very unusual, or spectacular? I have worked with Prince every morning and night on his ground work since he arrived on the farm. Today, however, I was feeling a bit tired, and decided to just give him his morning hay, without asking him for his walk, trot, canter, front quarter, and hind quarter. I just took his halter off and led him to his hay. I noticed when I walked away he followed me to the gate. I didn't think much of it at the time. I then put the other horses into their different pastures. Three were close to Prince and ate away at their hay. Prince, however, stood by the gate and ignored his. I was worried all day that something was wrong, that maybe, he wasn't feeling well and kept an eye on him. He left his hay untouched. He kept by the gate most of the day. Tonight, at feeding, he raced at a gallop as usual to the barn for his apple and grain hot oatmeal mash. I noticed that he did eat some of his hay, but there was still a small pile left. After his dinner, I had a strange gut feeling that he was lonely! I thought of his girlfriend Bella who I am sure he misses. She was at the home where I purchased him from. I think they were pretty attached. I then thought for a second, I wonder if he maybe, just maybe, missed the play time with me this morning! I took his halter and rope and he eagerly put his head into it. I then played with him, and did our transitions. He was exceptional. So eager to please and do! A lift of a finger and he went into his trot and turned into me. Beautiful. I took his halter off, and he never left my side. We walked side by side up to his evening hay. He is eating as I type this. My guy.
I apologized to him for me not playing this morning. I think he understood...
He is a real Prince!
